Overview
This comprehensive course offers a progressive series of yoga routines thoughtfully designed to support patients recovering from head injuries. The curriculum guides practitioners through three distinct levels of rehabilitation, focusing on relaxation, flexibility, balance, and mindful movement. By utilizing specific breathing mechanics and adaptive postures, clinicians can help patients safely regain neuromuscular control and regulate their nervous systems.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the progressive stages of post concussion yoga recovery from gentle mobilizations to advanced balance postures.
- Apply breath mechanics and core engagement techniques to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
- Implement safe modifications, including chair support and eye closure, to retrain vestibular and proprioceptive systems without exacerbating symptoms.
Audience
Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, yoga therapists, and rehabilitation specialists working with patients who are managing lingering symptoms from concussions or traumatic brain injuries.
Why This Course Matters
Neurological recovery requires a delicate balance between active rehabilitation and nervous system regulation. Patients often experience heightened sympathetic nervous system activity, muscle guarding, and vestibular impairments. This course provides evidence based, movement focused interventions that prioritize safety and comfort. By learning how to safely progress a patient from supine breath awareness to dynamic standing balances, clinicians can offer a holistic toolset to reduce headaches, fatigue, and dizziness.

PT, Owner ProActive Rehab
Leslie Tempest, BScPT, is a registered physiotherapist with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy in 1992. She has practiced in a variety of fields and locations, including a 3 year stint in England. Her experience is varied but has primarily focused in an out-patient environment and in private practice since 1996. Over the years she has taken many post-graduate training courses and has developed an interest in biomechanics, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise/exercise as medicine and preventative education. More recently she is delving into understanding the science of pain and how that impacts treatment. She is also fully trained in the McKenzie method of mechanical diagnosis and therapy.
Leslie became the owner/operator of her own clinic in 1999 and, 20 years later, now operates as ProActive Rehab! As being a business owner is much different that being a clinical physiotherapist, Leslie has also given much of her time over the last years to learning how to do this better. She is proud of her clinic and is confident you will love working with her great team in getting YOU back to living ProActively!
